Every year, around 700,000 people die as a consequence of antimicrobial resistance. Given the size of the threat, KfW and the German Healthcare Partnership jointly hosted a conference on this topic in Berlin on 26 November 2018, exploring ways to address it, including through development financing and involvement of the private sector. A new push for progress on sexual and reproductive health and rights – 25 years after cairo

On 23rd and 24th October 2018 over 100 representatives from governments, civil society, academia and private sector from almost 40 countries gathered at the 16th International Dialogue in Berlin. The Symposium, which is organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), brings together experts and local counterparts working for programmes supported by the German government, representatives from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), KfW Development Bank and GIZ head office, as well as representatives from other international organisations, government, academia, civil society and the private sector. Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges

At the 22nd International AIDS Conference (IAC) – entitled ‘Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges – the German booth staged a co-creative art event and provided information on Germany’s and partner countries’ responses to the HIV epidemic. Between 23 and 27 July 2018, the IAC took place in Amsterdam, gathering over 16000 delegates from around the world. Read more


Taking a unified stance for women’s rights in Africa

In July 2018, the Africa Regional Dialogue on Advancing Gender Equality and Rights took place in Nairobi, Kenya. Experts from civil society from all over the world joined forces to explore what remains to be done to realize women’s rights in Africa. At the forefront of the discussions were key issues such as the prevention of HIV, gender-based violence against women, harmful practices and reproductive health and rights. Read more
