Germany’s contribution to the G8 Muskoka Initiative on Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

During the 2010 G8 Summit in Muskoka, heads of state and government agreed to intensify efforts to reach global goals in maternal and child health. Germany has been a key supporter of the Muskoka initiative, and its financial contribution of 2 billion euros between 2011 and 2015 exceeded original commitments.

The country supports the sexual and reproductive health and rights of people across Asia and Africa through bilateral programmes such as the BMZ Initiative on Rights-Based Family Planning and Maternal Health as well as through multilateral and multi-sectoral structures.
