Worldwide, only one in two people receive adequate basic health care services.
Millions of people die from curable diseases or suffer financial hardship due to high medical costs. In many countries of the Global South, healthcare facilities lack money, infrastructure and staff. Global Health crises such as the Covid 19 pandemic or infectious diseases such as AIDS, malaria, polio or tuberculosis hit these countries particularly hard. This is why the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) supports partner countries in the Global South in strengthening their health systems. Ultimately, everybody benefits from these investments because pathogens know no borders.
