We have feelings too! Listening to sex workers in Zimbabwe

This 10-minutes video confronts viewers with the harsh realities of sex workers’ lives in Zimbabwe.

Sibongile Mtetwa, Coordinator of the ‘Sisters with a voice’ programme, explains how her organisation provides sexual and reproductive health services to sex workers in mobile and stationary clinics with specifically trained nurses throughout Zimbabwe. Several thousand sex workers use their services every year. 

In addition to running these clinics, the programme provides training to the police, to journalists, lawyers and health care workers so that all of these groups become more aware of the situation and the needs of sex workers and help address them.

‘Sisters with a voice’ is supported by GIZ and implemented by ‘The Centre for Sexual Health and HIV AIDS Research’ (CesHHAR) and UNFPA Zimbabwe. This video was produced in Mutare, the border town to Mozambique in 2011 and launched at World AIDS Day 2011. Since then it has been used to raise awareness for sex workers’ specific situation and needs.
